As a proud member of the generation that will be a first-hand witness to a Mars landing, my career ambition is to become an electrical engineer and send future astronauts to Mars. I realized that I could achieve this goal when my love for math was sparked by my 4th grade teacher, Ms. Duke. She made learning fun by utilizing toys as prizes, and I felt excited because it helped increase my confidence that led me to where I am today. As one of the few female commanders in my high school's Air Force JROTC program, I continue to be a role model to help advocate diversity for other young women – and youth as a whole – to pursue STEAM careers.
